LAHORE: Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan on Sunday reiterated his stance that only the National Assembly speaker could declare the prime minister disqualified from his parliament membership.

Talking to reporters, he said that mere framing of charges c uld not attract disqualification and the National Assembly speaker had to first discern whether a member of parliament was punished by the court of law. "If the speaker reaches the conclusion that the punishment was wrong, then the matter would end within 30 days."

To a query about cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, Aitzaz said the president had immunity under international laws.

End.
