Officials claim of killing 15 Taliban killed

MEHTERLAM: 15 Taliban killed and 17 more injured during clashes with the security forces in Alingar district of Laghman province, officials said Wednesday.
The dead included two Taliban commanders identified as Qari Muhammad Ilyas and Muhammad Omari, four Pakistani nationals and two would-be suicide bombers, a Laghman press office statement available with the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) said.
According to the press release, the engagements took place in Kata Sang and Gul Araam areas of Alingar district as part of Shamsher-33 operation.
Meanwhile, the Taliban rejected the claims as false and told the AIP their two fighters were killed and three more injured in the offensive.
He claimed the security forces also suffered casualties, expressing ignorance about accurate tally.
Three Taliban fighters killed in Logar: Afghan and coalition combined force killed three Taliban fighters in Charkh district of Logar province on Wednesday.
An additional Taliban fighter was detained in the operation launched against a Taliban commander, an ISAF press release available with the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) stated. Weapons were also seized in the offensive, it added.
Meanwhile, a Logar press office statement said three Taliban fighters, including their commander Muhammad Sher, were killed in the operation conducted in Qala-i-Naw area of Charkh district.
Meanwhile, the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told the AIP their three fighters were killed when the foreign forces conducted bombardment on a mosque in Charkh district. The mosque was also destroyed in the blitz, he added.
Two border cops killed in Kunar blasts: Two border police personnel were killed and one more sustained injuries in separate roadside bombings in Naray district of Kunar province on Wednesday.
Two vehicles of the border police struck improvised explosive devices in Dokalaam area of Naray district, killing two cops and injuring one more, a border police official Colonel Muhamad Ayub Hussain Khel told AIP.
Meanwhile, the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told the AIP that five border police personnel were killed in a blast in Naray district.
Civilian killed in Uruzgan blast: A civilian was killed and another sustained injuries in a roadside bombing in Uruzgan province on Wednesday.
An IED ripped through a civilian vehicle in Garmab Manda area of Tarinkot City, the Uruzgan police spokesman Farif Aayal AIP.
The police registered a case and started investigation.
Two killed in Kunduz airstrike: An unmanned aircraft of the ISAF targeted and killed two people in Qala-i-Zaal district of Kunduz province Wednesday.
An unmanned aircraft of the foreign forces targeted and killed two people in Safi Kot district of Qala-i-Zaal, the Kunduz police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini told AIP. It could not be ascertained whether they were civilians or Taliban, he said, adding a delegation has been formed to investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, an area resident told the AIP the deceased were civilians having no ties with the Taliban.
The Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told the AIP that the deceased were Afghan civilians.
The ISAF, when contacted by the AIP, said: "We can confirm that today, a coalition force killed two insurgents with a precision strike in Qal’ah-ye Zal district, Kunduz province today."
