Officials, Taliban claim casualties to each other

21 September, 2012

KABUL: The Afghan officials and Taliban Wednesday raised conflicting claims about casualties to each other in separate incidents in various parts of the country.

An interior ministry press release available with the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) stated an Afghan and coalition joint force conducted operations in Kabul, Baghlan, Balkh, Zabul, Logar, Khost, Farah and Helmand provinces over the past 24 hours, killing 18 armed opponents, injuring two and arresting 15 more. Weapons and explosives were also seized in the offensives, it added.

The Taliban rejected the claim as false and told the AIP their fighters conducted several attacks on Afghan and foreign forces in Ghazni, Kunar, Uruzgan.

End.
