KHOST/KABUL: An officer among two police were killed and three others wounded in a roadside bomb attack this morning in Mandozai district of Khost province, an official said Monday.

A landmine went off near a vehicle travelling in by policemen on Khost-Gardez road in the limits of Mandozai district, killing two occupants and wounding three more, Wali Shah Hemmat, administrator of Mandozai district, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

A commander and junior officer were among the dead, he said, adding the cops were serving in the neighbouring Nadar Shah Kot district.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack and said the attack was mounted by Taliban at approximately 8:00 a.m. (local time) in Lalma area of Mandozai district.

Meanwhile, an Australian soldier with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) died in a roadside bomb blast in the southern Uruzgan province Sunday, the Australian Defense Ministry announced Monday.

ISAF reported the death of a coalition soldier in an explosion in southern Afghanistan but didn't disclose his nationality or the exact location of the incident.

There are nearly 1,500 Australian soldiers stationed in the Uruzgan province.
