Nurses on strike for acceptance of demands
16 December, 2011
PESHAWAR: Nurses of three tertiary care hospitals — Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) and Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) Thursday observed complete strike in their respective hospitals and staged a protest demonstration for their demands.
They later held a meeting with Health Minister Zahir Ali Shah and called off their strike after his assurance to resolve all their genuine problems.
The nurses demanded of the provincial government a proper service structure and raise in stipends of student nurses. They also demanded that their services should be controlled by the director general Health and Services instead of Provincial Health Services Academy (PHSA).
