Nuisance of begging... By Shadman
19 February, 2013
Through this letter I would like to draw the attention of the authorities towards the increasing nuisance of beggars in our city. Nowadays, the number of beggars has abruptly increased. Everywhere in the city, whether the market place, park, outside a restaurant and even in every street, you will find such obstinate beggars who cannot be easily put off. The pity is that most of them are physically fit but are compulsive beggars. They have made begging a profession. Some of them might be involved in committing petty crimes also. Some of these beggars suffer from highly contagious diseases such as leprosy and tuberculosis, and, while begging, they come into contact with the general public. It is necessary that such cases be taken care of and be treated in public hospitals. Able-bodied beggars must be taken to task — either they be given jobs or put to labour, but they must not be allowed to make begging their profession. I am sure the authorities will pay heed to this annoying trend of increasing beggars at the earliest because it is becoming impossible now to step outside one's home without being accosted by them.
