Nine killed in different acts of city violence

KARACHI: Nine people, including an activist of Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST), were killed in separate acts of violence here on Monday.

In the first incident, an activist of PST was gunned down and a minor child was injured in sector 11-J, New Karachi.

SHO Nasir Bukhari said Khalid Qadri, 27, was sitting outside his house when two armed riders shot him dead, while a child Ansar, 2, also injured in the attack.

The body and injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for autopsy and treatment respectively, where doctors termed Ansar's condition critical. The SHO said Khalid had a criminal record and might have been killed over a personal dispute. A sympathiser of Ahle Sunnaj Wal Jammat (ASWJ) was shot dead at his shop near Singer Chowrangi, Korangi.

SHO Hatim Marwat said that two unidentified culprits opened a volley of bullets at Shaheed General Store, resultantly, Muhammad Khalid, 39, died. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities. The SHO said the victim was owner of the shop. He hailed from Hazara.

A man was killed and two others were injured in an attack near PSO fuel station within the jurisdiction of Jamshed Quarters police station.

An officials said Riaz, 25, Shaukat, 30, Kamran, and his brother Farhan were on Kashmir Road when four culprits opened targeted fire on them. As a result, all of them received injuries and were rushed to CHK, where doctors pronounced Riaz dead and termed condition of Kamran and Farhan critical. He said that Riaz was the resident of North Karachi, while the injured lived in North Nazimabad. The officer said the motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained.

A man was killed near Sabeel Wali Masjid located in Gurumandir Roundabout within the limits of Soldier Bazaar police station.

According to police Owais, 20, was standing near Sabeel Wali Masjid when two armed pillion riders opened fire on him, as a result, he received bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries on the way to CHK. The officer that Owais was the resident of C Area of Liaquatabad and involved in criminal activities.

A commuter was killed while offering resistance during a robbery bid near Taj Complex within the precincts of Preedy police station.

According to police, Ahmer, 28, was going in his car after drawing Rs 0.25 million from a private bank when armed culprits intercepted him and shot him dead while offering resistance and decamped with booty. The body was brought to CHK. Ahmer was unmarried and the resident of Admin Society.

A man was gunned down in Baldia within the limits of Saeedabad police station. According to police, the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained. The body of a man was found behind Al Asif Square within the jurisdiction of Sohrab Goth police station.

According to police, unidentified culprits kidnapped Muhammad Hussain, 25, and Lali, 28, and later killed Hussain. However, Lali managed to reach home. The body was moved to ASH. The officer said that Hussain was a truck driver and Lali a cleaner. He said that the initial investigation revealed that Hussian was killed over a personal enmity.

A shot dead man was found near Dua Hotel in Maripur Road. The body was shifted to CHK. He said the victim appeared to be Urdu speaking. He said that members of lyari warfare might be involved in the killing. The body of a man aged about 30 was found near Pakistan Chowk within the limits of Mithadar police station. An official said the victim appeared to be Urdu speaking.
