ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will host a farewell lunch for President Asif Ali Zardari who is due to complete his five-year term on September 8.
Invitations have been issued to dignitaries for the lunch to give an honourable farewell to the president.
Those invited include PPP President Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah and federal ministers.
It is for the first time in the country's history that a new president has been elected before the departure of an elected president.
Meanwhile, leaders of the opposition in the Senate and the National Assembly – Aitzaz Ahsan and Syed Khursheed Shah – would jointly host a dinner for the president on September 4.
President Zardari would be replaced by PML-N leader Mamnoon Hussain, who was elected president by a simple majority in the July 30 presidential election.
