LAHORE: PPP Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said on Monday that the centre had been unnecessarily interfering in the affairs of the provinces.

Talking to reporters at the Lahore High Court, Mr Ahsan said the record of Nawaz Sharif was filled with vindictive politics.

He said neither Dr Asim Hussain nor the PPP were terrorists and linking the party to terrorism was unfortunate. PPP Co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari would return to Pakistan soon, he added.

In a separate media talk, former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jahangir said state institutions, not individuals, should be strengthened.

In reply to a question about possible extension in the tenure of Chief of the Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif, she said he should be given extension if Pakistan army had no other general to lead.

Ms Jahangir said she believed that there would be several highly professional and capable generals in the army who could lead the force.

She lamented that the institution of the Supreme Court was being weakened through ad hoc appointments of judges.
