Nawaz, Fazl, Zardari damaged country: Imran

08 February, 2012

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has said that the Nawaz-Fazl-Zardari troika has caused severe damage to the country.

Addressing an emergent press conference on Tuesday, Imran Khan said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman had covertly been supporting President Asif Ali Zardari either in the name of Islam, or for protecting the system.

He alleged that consensus among political parties over the proposed 20th Amendment reeked of a deal.

"The trio has dented the interests of the people and the country, as Pakistan's wealth has been looted mercilessly during the last four years," he regretted.

"Corruption and incompetence has cost the country over Rs 3.1 trillion, and under the rule of the present government, the country's debt has doubled," Khan said. He said fuel prices rose 15 percent in international markets, but they soared by 51 percent in Pakistan. "People are made to pay the cost of the rulers' theft from their pockets."

Imran Khan said Pakistan had suffered a loss of $50 billion in the war on terror over the past four years, while it had been reimbursed only $20 billion under the Coalition Support Fund. He said the country's education and health budgets had been cut for the sake of the US war.

The PTI chief said all the people who took relief from the NRO hatched a conspiracy against the country, which caused the poor to suffer directly.

Imran Khan alleged that Nawaz Sharif, attired in a suit, had gone to the Supreme Court on memogate controversy, and backtracked due to pressure. The former cricketer vowed that PTI was ready to "topple all three wickets on one delivery", and said that the MQM was not an issue for his party.

End.
