NRO Case: PPP, partners decide to call NA session on 12th

ISLAMABAD: To counter the fallout of the Supreme Court's decision on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), which sent ripples in the government, the PPP and its coalition partners put their heads together on Tuesday night and decided to convene the National Assembly session on January 12 to deal with the situation.
President Asif Ali Zardari, who took an emergency flight to fly to Islamabad from Karachi, chaired the meeting at the Presidency along with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.
PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, Senator Afrasiab Khattak, Senator Mir Israrullah Zehri, Dr Farooq Sattar, Senator Babar Khan Ghauri, Munir Khan Orakzai, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Senator Babar Awan, Raja Pervez Ashraf and Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar attended the meeting.
After the meeting, Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting discussed current political situation with particular reference to the most recent developments, which though the spokesperson didn't elaborate but it was obvious that the SC's latest act on the NRO was the sole agenda in the coalitions partners' meeting. The heads of parliamentary allies parties proposed that the National Assembly session be urgently called to discuss the latest political issues.
Farhatullah Babar said that in the light of the proposal by the parties heads it was decided that the session be called on January 12 at pm. Before the session of the National Assembly, a joint meeting of the parliamentary parties will be also held in the Parliament House to work out a strategy to be adopted during the session.
Earlier, immediately after his arrival in the capital, President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani held a one-on-one meeting to discuss the situation arising out of the SC's decision.
