NASD warns of scam regulatory Web sites
17 July, 2006
NEW YORK : A US securities industry regulator on July 11 warned of a new scam in which fake stock sales people direct investors to phony Web sites that mimic those of government regulators.
NASD said it had received complaints from non-US investors about being directed to Web sites ending in the suffix ".gov.us" via e-mailed and faxed sales pitches. It said these sites are designed to be confused with legitimate US government Web sites that end in ".gov," or real sites that use country codes, such as ".us" for the United States or ".uk" for the United Kingdom.
