NAB chairman to be briefed on high-profile scams

ISLAMABAD: Top officials of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi Region are set to give a presentation from Tuesday to their newly appointed Chairman Major (retd) Qamar Zaman on high-profile mega corruption scandals which are under investigation.
According to sources, the NAB chairman has started taking briefings from regional offices and Rawalpindi region is first in the series to brief him on corruption cases.
Sources said the Rawalpindi office of NAB had been probing into Rs22 billion Rental Power projects scam and multi-billion scam of OGRA in which two former prime ministers — Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf — are allegedly involved. Another multi-billion scam is that of Modaraba.
Sources said presently more than 40 high-profile cases involving prominent politicians are pending with the NAB and are at different stages of investigation.
Sources added that there are more than 600 inquiries, 250 investigations and over 600 cases under trial.Following presentation from NAB Rawalpindi region, the regions of Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta will give their presentation about high profile corruption cases under investigation with each region.
NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has constituted a committee comprising NAB deputy chairman, additional prosecutor general accountability, director general (Operations) and two other DGs. The committee has already started functioning to ensure expeditious disposal of all cases pending for over three years and will report to chairman by the end of current week.
