NA approves resolution to indemnify Gilani steps

11 October, 2012

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) on Wednesday approved a resolution presented by Law Minister Farooq H Naek to indemnify the steps taken by former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.

Naek presented the resolution seeking extension for 120 days in an already endorsed ordinance under para A, Clause 2 of Article 89 of the constitution. PML-N's Zahid Hamid, while opposing the move, asked why the government felt the need to table the resolution when the matter was already under discussion in a standing committee. He claimed attempts were being made to indemnify the steps of a prime minister who had been declared disqualified by the Supreme Court.

Despite objection from the PML-N, Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi approved the resolution.

End.
