04 March, 2016
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday said that former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal has confirmed PTI’s stance about rigging.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Imran Khan said that Mustafa Kamal’s statement has confirmed PTI’s stance about rigging but the rumours about him joining PTI are premature. H
Imran lambasted Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for unilaterally absolving all the election staff of the alleged negligence and irregularities committed in the local bodies’ polls.
Khan said the ECP cannot give clean chit to its officers that were found guilty of committing electoral frauds arguing the officials had committed a big crime by tampering with mandate of public.
He said the ECP had never punished those responsible persons for electoral frauds adding the commission had lost credibility to hold free and fair polls in the country.
“It is heartening that ECP instead of taking punitive action against the officers has unilaterally absolved them of the misdeeds. It is simply unacceptable,” he continued.
He said the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) should verify the electoral lists ahead of the scheduled election in Azad Jammu and Kashmir in order to ensure transparency.
Mr Khan spoke on variety of issues saying massive electoral fraud has surfaced in NA-110. He regretted that the ECP was deliberately hiding the fraud only to save a federal minister.
“Nadra and ECP should ensure that the votes cast in NA-110 had genuine finger prints. It is sad that the authenticity of voters in the constituency is not verified. Minister Khwaja Asif is utilizing all resources to delay the probe,” he said.
The PTI chief sought ban on massive use of money in election campaign arguing an ordinary person will never be able to contest election against the rich politicians that use hefty money during poll campaigns.
Referring to his party’s leader Hamid Khan, he said the candidate spent millions in seeking justice but still the authorities failed to give him justice.
Mr Khan was speaking to reporters after meeting PTI’s chief election commissioner Tasnim Durrani. Khan said his party will set an example for other political forces after holding intra-party election in PTI.
He said PTI believed in internal democracy adding that fresh campaign of membership drive would be launched. He rubbished the rumours of resignation of Tasnim Durrani and said Mr Durrani will work for strengthening internal democracy in PTI.
