03 June, 2005
ISLAMABAD, June 04 (Online): President General Pervez Musharraf has completed his homework on new NFC award and given final shape to his formula amid the reports that the president is likely to inform the federal government about his formula today ahead of proceeding to foreign visit.
Sources told Online Friday that the president solicited opinion from the planning commission and finance ministry in the light of recommendations of the provinces. President took review of details and record pertaining to all statistics, special grants extended to the provinces and distribution of resources under existing award.
It is also learnt that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz will meet the President today and the latter will brief the Prime Minister about his formula.
President wants distribution of shares among the provinces on the basis of fifty-fifty out of federal resources. However it is not feasible due to constraints government is facing. It is likely that distribution of shares will be on the formula of 52 percent for federation and 48 percent for provinces out of federal resources. However in the event of raise in the shares in the federal resources, their share in annual development program will decrease.
President has however not informed any province about new NFC award.
When contacted spokesman of NWFP government told that federal government has not informed them about any decision on new NFC award.
However Sindh Chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim said that any decision taken by the president on NFC award would be acceptable to Sindh.
"Sindh stands by its stance. President is guarantor and his decision will be final. We hope whatever decision he takes will be in the interest of every province. He will do justice with all", Arbab Rahim said this while addressing a hurriedly called press conference in Hyderabad Circuit House Friday.
