PESHAWAR: A stray mortar bomb smashed through a house in a Sheikhan village, a suburb of Peshawar close to the Khyber tribal district, killing three children and their mother and injuring their father, police said. "The victims were asleep. A mother and her three children died on the spot," Shafiullah Khan, a senior police officer, told AFP. The Frontier Corps denied on Sunday firing the mortar in Bara tehsil of Khyber tribal region. A spokesman for FC sent short messages via mobile phones to media offices, saying that "news circulating in this regard are untrue and baseless." He said, "In fact it were the terrorists who fired mortars on the security forces. Any damage caused to civil population was due to terrorists firing and not due to security forces firing." Bara tehsil has under curfew for a long time as operations against private militias and Taliban are taking longer than expected time making civilian population flee their areas and live under extreme environments in camps in Peshawar. End.
