Morning assembly... By Uzair

06 July, 2012

The core values and practices of a society are the reflection of its past. Every nation is equipped with such paradigms. The present course of time is in the phase of globalisation. Globalisation is having different impacts on our cultures, but it is important to hold on to our identity. I recently watched a programme on a TV channel. Students from an English medium school were asked to name the writer who wrote our national anthem. The result was quite alarming as no one was able to answer. The reporter made the question easier and asked them to sing our national anthem. Everyone tried their best but in vain as no one was able to remember it properly. These schools are the leading institutions of our country. The products of these institutions will become the reflection of our country. Some segment may criticise my viewpoint, but in life there are different folds in which identity is needed. The practice of morning assemblies in schools in different parts of our country should be appreciated. My own experience also reflects that this practice will help to keep our identity intact, on a primary level, as this trend of morning assemblies is depleting day by day.

After coming across any problem, a wise society comes forward to solve it. Our educational institutions must design different activities at different levels for students so that our national identity does not vanish with the rapid globalisation in the world.

We must become the custodians of our national heritage as this is where nations feel proud and patriotism mounts up.
