Meeting once again... By Javed
21 October, 2013
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has proceeded to the US on the invitation of US President Barak Obama. The former prime minister of Pakistan, Mr Gilani, met Obama in 2012 in Seoul, South Korea. This is the second time that the high dignitaries of both countries are meeting one on one. Certain issues regarding security and economics will come under discussion. Sources revealed that President Obama would be taking up security issues, especially related to the post-2014 troop withdrawal.
I think the meeting is expected to be fruitful as Nawaz Sharif, after taking over the reins of power, has started a plan to take the country towards economic revival. For that, Mr Sharif will be asking for more cooperation from the US administration in order to boost up the Pakistani market in the US as well as the reimbursement of the Coalition Support Funds. The White House stated: "The visit will highlight the importance and resilience of the Pakistan-US relationship and provide an opportunity to strengthen cooperation on issues of mutual concern, such as energy, trade and economic development, regional stability and countering violent extremism."
After the tensions in Pakistan-US relations since the NATO container issue, the meeting is considered to be very important for mutual cooperation. It is also expected that both dignitaries will share their views on the security troops' withdrawal from Afghanistan and will facilitate them in a peaceful manner via Pakistan till the end of 2014. I think this visit can result in a good package for the economic revival of Pakistan.
