KARACHI: Massive financial irregularity has been detected in the accounts of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Sakhi Hassan branch amid the reports that manger of the bank is allegedly involved in the financial malpractice.
Manager Owais Asif issued 11 pay orders amounting to Rs 30 million to an account holder on September 22 while the consumer had deposited only 11.50 million into his accounts in the bank.
A regional inspector nominated by regional office raided bank branch and recovered Rs 500000 in cash, a cheque of 20 million rupees and Rs 5 million from almirah of the bank. The manager could give no explanation about this recovery. The bank manager started threatening the inspector after the inquiry report was sent to regional office. Despite lapse of one month no action has been taken against the bank manger by the regional office.
Sources told regional business chief Javed Haider and Regional HR Qazi Imtiaz are now active to shelve this inquiry.
Owais Asif was wanted by NAB for disbursement of loan amounting to million of rupees illegally during his stay in Rahim Abad branch of the bank. He was arrested from Sakhi Hassan branch 4 months earlier and was released on bail. He has been appointed manager of Sakhi Hassan branch again following his release on bail.
