Malik hopes things will move forward in right direction

12 January, 2012

ISLAMABAD: The coalition government of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has completed almost four years and during its current tenure took everyone on board while taking important decisions.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik claimed this on Wednesday while talking to media persons after chairing a meeting of the Implementation Committee that reviewed progress and implementation of the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Package (AHBP).

He said: "I hope the things would move forward in the right direction." He added that parliament was supreme in a democratic set-up and the session of the National Assembly had been summoned where public representatives will have an opportunity to discuss issues confronting the country.

Informing the decisions taken during the meeting, which was attended by all stakeholders, including three federal ministers from Balochistan, Rehman Malik said the Coast Guards and the Frontier Constabulary (FC) would not establish any check post on the RCD and Bolan highways and all the posts already established would be removed immediately.

The minister said the provincial police chief had been directed to constitute a force to protect Federal Areas in the province. A special police patrolling on highways would also be activated.

It was also decided that all the ministries would release annual funds for the projects under the Package to the Balochistan government and monitor the projects through their officers. Rehman Malik said the Information Secretary, who also attended the meeting, was asked to prepare a documentary on the AHBP, containing all details regarding various projects.

He said the Ministry of Petroleum would be asked for directing the private companies to provide funds for welfare projects, like school, roads, hospitals etc. The next meeting of the committee would be held in Quetta.

The minister appreciated the flow of funds from the federal government for the projects. He said the cattle smuggling would be stopped immediately. He said this is the year of Balochistan development.
