MQM will foil conspiracies against LG system: Altaf

09 September, 2012

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chief Altaf Hussain has said that local government was the base of democracy and opposition of local government (LG) system was tantamount to opposition of democracy.

He expressed these views while addressing an emergent general workers convention through telephone, held at the MQM headquarters in Karachi. It is pertinent to mention here that the general workers conventions were also held at the same time at provincial districts and zones across the country.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that MQM and Pakistan People Party would jointly foil the conspiracies against the LG system. Hussain strongly criticised, Sindhi nationalists, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and its chief Nawaz Sharif and all those opposing the Sindh People Local Government Ordinance, 2012. He said that those so-called Sindhi nationalists opposing the ordinance had raised the slogan of 'Sindhu Desh' in the past and were indeed miscreants, however MQM would safeguard the country and would get LG system imposed, he vowed.

He further said that PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif considers himself as 'Caliph,' and said that PML-N was hatching conspiracies against the country, however, his dreams would never come true as MQM and PPP had joined hands to promote democracy and safeguard the country. He further said that Sharif had betrayed the people of Hazara division and Southern Punjab, while MQM would remain shoulder to shoulder in the struggle for their rights.

Addressing the so-called Pashtoon nationalists, he said that such elements should take care of Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa, instead of political point scoring on the issues of Sindh province.

Hussain was of the view that LG system was essential for durable democracy in the country. He vowed that MQM would foil all conspiracies to destabilise democracy and local government system.

End.
