MQM sends Rs50 bn notice to Imran

KARACHI: The MQM has sent a defamation notice of Rs50 bn to Imran Khan for levelling allegations against its leader Altaf Hussain in the wake of the murder of a senior PTI leader in Karachi. The MQM has sent the notice through its lawyer Farogh Nasim.
Earlier, Muttahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) workers staged a sit-in in Karachi on Sunday against Imran Khan's allegations against Altaf Hussain.
Dozens of MQM workers, who gathered at Ayesha Manzil for the protest, chanted slogans against Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan. They said that the allegations levelled by Imran against Altaf Hussain were baseless and unwarranted.
Participants of the sit-in were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against Imran Khan. The MQM workers also took out rallies in Hyderabad against Imran Khan's remarks in connection with the murder of PTI leader Zahra Shahid.
According to reports, MQM workers staged rallies in Latifabad, Paka Qila, Station Road and Heerabad and condemned Imran Khan's remarks. They also staged a sit-in before the local press conference.
In a statement late on Saturday night, Imran Khan directly held Altaf Hussain and the British government responsible for the murder of Ms Zahra.Meanwhile, the MQM has expressed its strong reaction over Imran's allegation against Altaf Hussain for the killing of PTI leader Zahra Shahid Hussain. Addressing a press conference in Karachi on Sunday, MQM senior leader Dr Farooq Sattar condemned the brutal murder of PTI vice president of Karachi, Zahra Shahid and said that Imran Khan has shown his immaturity by blaming the MQM supremo before the preliminary investigation.
Sattar said that the MQM would sue the PTI chief for defamation and would file a case under article 62-63 over the Sita White case.
Meanwhile, panic gripped Hyderabad after unknown armed men torched three vehicles, including PTI leader's car, and attacked Lahore-bound train and injured its driver besides opening indiscriminate firing in various areas
The armed men beat up PTI leader Usman outside his home near Gul Khan petrol pump within the jurisdiction of Market police station, a day after PTI leader Zahra Shahid was shot dead in Karachi. They also torched his Honda City car (ADK 057) and opened indiscriminate fire on his house.
Incidents of firing were also reported in Latifabad, Shahi Bazar, Faqir Ka Pir, Tower market and others areas. Three vehicles were set a blaze in Hirabad, Pinjrapol and Qila.
A van and a Suzuki pickup were torched near Pakka Qila and Pinjrah Pool respectively. The armed men also opened fire and pelted stones on Pakistan Express train within the jurisdiction of Tando Yousuf police station, leaving the train driver injured. The injured was shifted to Civil Hospital Hyderabad.
Panic gripped the area after such incidents and vehicular traffic remained thin as most of the petrol pumps were closed after firing. Tyres were also burnt to block flow of traffic.
Small and big market remained closed in Heerabad, Liaquatabad Colony, Quaidabad, Phuleli, Preetabad, Raisham Bazaar, Gari Khata Chowk, Sarfaraz Colony, Cloth Market, Anaj Mandi, Subzi Mandi, Faqir Ka Pirr, Shahi Bazaar, Khokhar Mohalla and Latifabad.
