MQM ministers cannot sit on opposition benches: Khuhro
21 February, 2013
KARACHI: Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said on Wednesday that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) ministers could not be let to sit on the opposition benches till issuance of their resignations' approval notification. "If MQM's Sindh Assembly members, except ministers, give applications individually for the opposition benches, then they will be immediately allotted the seats," he said while talking to media at his office after Sindh Assembly session. To a question, Khuhro said that the applications submitted by the MQM with signs of 51 members also contained some Muttahida ministers. As he has still not received notification of their resignations' approval, so they could not be allotted the opposition seats, he added. To another query, he said that National and Provincial Assemblies could be dissolved simultaneously on 15 or 16 March 2013 for which consultation was being held with all political parties including those in the opposition. He said that general elections would also be held on the same day in the country, 60 days after the dissolution of the assemblies for which consensus of all parties was available. End.
