18 September, 2012
ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday demanded the government to immediately withdraw the recent POL price hike. MQM Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi presented a call attention notice in the Senate Secretariat under Rule 65 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business. He said the unprecedented price hike of POL petroleum, oil, lubricants and CNG and the increase in petrol price by Rs 6.82 and CNG by Rs 6.25, were an unbearable burden on the people of Pakistan. Mashhadi said the rise in POL prices would increase consumer goods prices, transportation charges and affect the poor and middle classes. "The people of Pakistan are unable to bear any additional financial burden and are now on the verge of desperation," he added. The government must take immediate action and cut unreasonably high taxes on POL products, he said. End.
