MQM demands allocation of opposition benches

24 February, 2013

KARACHI: The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has said that resignations of MQM ministers and advisors should be accepted immediately and opposition benches be allotted to MQM in the National Assembly, the Senate and the Provincial Assembly of Sindh.

In a statement on Saturday, the committee also called for the issuance of notification of the MQM's leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly. The Co-ordination Committee demanded that the resignations should be accepted without any delay and. It said that MQM had been raising its voice against undemocratic actions and would continue to play an active role from the opposition benches by raising its voice on public issues.

Meanwhile, Acting Sindh Governor Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said on Saturday that the resignations tendered by the ministers belonging to the Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) had still not been approved.

Talking to the media persons at Expo Centre Karachi, he said that difference of opinion could be experienced among the political parties but it did not mean to close door for negotiations with each other. He said that the MQM-PPP alliance was still the need of the hour. Responding to a question he said that the PPP government withdrew the SPLGA, 2012 as it had drawn a negative perception among people of Sindh.
