KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) suffered a setback on Thursday when, according to unofficial results, its candidate in a by-election for a Sindh Assembly’s lost to his Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)’s rival.

According to unofficial results received from 134 polling stations, PPP’s candidate Ghulam Murtaza Baloch secured 21,415 votes followed by MQM’s Waseem Ahmed who secured 15,222 votes. At least 21 candidates contested for PS-127 seat. Reportedly 100 polling stations out of 134 were declared sensitive. Turnout of voters remained very low with multiple incidents of violence were also reported during the by-election. At least two people were injured and nine were arrested.
