KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Saturday announced a protest movement against Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO) 2013.

MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari who is also the Leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly termed the SLGO a black law through which rural and urban population of the province would be divided.

He said that rights of the people of Sindh had been seized through the ordinance while the amendments had already been effective from September 16, 2013.

He further said that political parties in the province should be provided equal opportunities for participation in the Local Bodies' polls but Sindh government had designed the ordinance to obtain its desired results.

"Such a practice by Sindh government will put a question mark on the fair, free and transparent LB polls and also shatter people's confidence on the Election Commission of Pakistan," Sabzwari said.

Rejecting the SLGO (Amendments), Sabzwari demanded the judiciary and the ECP to take immediate notice of the issue. He expressed hopes that the judiciary would give the decision in favour of the people of Pakistan.

While inviting other political parties and opposition for support, he said that first protest against the Act would be staged on Sunday (today) at Fawwara Chowk.

Reminding people about the rights, he said everyone must come forward to save the rights of the people of Sindh.

End.
