Lyari gangster among 2 shot dead by LEAs

KARACHI: An alleged Lyari gangster was killed during an encounter with law enforcement agencies (LEAs) while another criminal was shot dead during a similar kind of showdown with the police at Super Highway on Wednesday.

A Lyari gangster affiliated with Waliullah Lakho group was killed in an alleged encounter during a targeted operation conducted by police and Rangers in the same locality. Police officer said that the encounter took place when they along with the Rangers conducted a joint raid on a tip-off about criminals' hideout.

As we reached the terrorists den, the gangsters opened indiscriminate fire on us. In our retaliation one gangster was killed, who was later identified as Behram, the officer added, He claimed that the deceased gangster was wanted to the police in around 13 cases of crime including targeted killings, extortion and attacks on law enforcers.

Separately, Special Investigation Unit police claimed to have killed an alleged criminal after an encounter. According to SIU officials, the raid was conducted on a tip-off at the criminals' hideaway near Super Highway. During the exchange of fire, one criminal was killed. He was identified as Gulab Jatoi.
