Liberate us from terrorism... By Amjad

No one's life is safe in Pakistan anymore, where even market places are packed with killers, militants, looters and hawks. The prevailing situation resembles a jungle where only the powerful can survive, leaving the rest in a state of fear. This clearly portrays a chaotic situation. All these uncertainties erupted directly when Pakistan jumped into the ocean of war in 1989. The future generation will openly claim that their ancestors bequeathed sectarianism, target killing and a volatile society to them. However, the recent leniency of the Taliban for talks with the government is a time to settle core issues. Ehsanullah Ehsan, the spokesman of the Taliban, in a video agreed upon talks on the condition of three guarantors, i.e. Nawaz Sharif, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Munawar Hussain. It is time for Pakistan to deal with the situation wisely. It is a move forward to bring peace in the area, which has remained a victim of prolonged war. The government should find a way to work around the militants, keeping the interests of the masses as their first priority. Moreover, the success of talks will bode well for the major actors, especially Pakistan and Afghanistan. In the long run, it would be a productive effort for the post-2014 situation in Afghanistan. Let us give a chance to peace by negotiating with the Taliban — provided they lay down their arms — and liberate the people from the curse of terrorism. AMJAD HUSSAIN
