It was very sad to know that the veteran comedian, Lehri Sahib, was awarded a stipend of Rs 2,500 per month by the late prime minister Benazir Bhutto during her second regime, which he received until his death. What criteria do we have for compensating our artistes? Our heads must hang in shame for how we treat them. Government should fix at least an amount equivalent to the money paid to a labourer for old ailing actors. The rich and wealthy should also support artistes in the latter part of their lives.
