Lawyers go on strike to back judiciary

LAHORE/KARACHI/ ISLAMABAD: Lawyers across the country on Friday observed a strike to show solidarity with judiciary.

They boycotted courts and took out rallies in different cities. A meeting of the Lawyers National Coordination Council was held at the Islamabad High Court with Hamid Khan in the chair.

Speakers lauded the Supreme Court's verdict in the Malik Riaz case and said that the judiciary had become more independent and stronger than before. In Karachi, lawyers observed a strike in the Sindh High Court (SHC), city court, Malir Districts and Sessions Court and lower courts.

In Punjab, lawyers of Lahore and other cities also stayed away from courts.
