03 January, 2013
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that laptops worth Rs 8 billion are being distributed among talented students "purely on a merit basis", adding that brilliant students from Azad Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh and Balochistan have also been included in this revolutionary programme. Speaking at a ceremony to distribute laptops among talented students at the University of Engineering and Technology, the chief minister said the youth are the future of the nation and provision of resources to them is not expenditure but a fruitful investment. He said that the laptops distribution programme is such a "revolutionary and welfare- oriented project of the Punjab government which future governments will also not be able to end". He said that those who are raising the slogans of change in the country should realise that distribution of laptops among brilliant students, an internship programme for postgraduates, provision of scholarships to the talented students and presentation of guard of honour to the talented and hardworking students is the "real change". End.
