Laptop distribution... By Yaseen

22 January, 2013

I want to gain the attention of the honourable chief minister of Punjab regarding the distribution of free laptops to meritorious students. Last year, laptops were distributed among M Phil, LLM and PhD scholars irrespective of any merit criteria while only those BSc and MA/MSc degree holders were awarded laptops who secured 70 percent in the semester system and 60 percent marks in the annual system in their last exams.

This year, our bureaucracy has changed the criteria so that M Phil, LLM and PhD scholars will not be able to get this gadget. If we rationally see and analyse things critically, then we will come to know that M Phil, LLM and PhD scholars are more deserving of this gadget when compared to BSc and MA/MSc students because these scholars need it for their research work, thesis writing, assignment preparation and for making presentations. There are more than 100,000 laptops for this year and, in Punjab, the total number of M Phil and PhD scholars does not exceed 12,000. This is not a large number of scholars for the Punjab government to facilitate.

It is our strong appeal to the Punjab government that laptops be given to M Phil and PhD scholars without any merit criteria because these scholars deserve this gadget the most. They need to completely concentrate on their research work and come out with new and innovative ideas to help our crises-riddled Pakistan.
