LHC moved against Dr Asim's 'dual nationality'
09 October, 2012
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court was moved on Monday against Adviser to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain over his alleged dual nationality. Petitioner Noshab Khan stated that Senator Dr Asim had a US citizenship, but at the time of filing nomination papers for the Senate elections, he had falsely declared that he was not a foreign national. He stated that the Supreme Court had already disqualified all parliamentarians who were dual nationals and even directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to get fresh declarations on oath from such legislators. The petitioner stated that the apex court had already held that those who filed false declarations were not sagacious, righteous and honest, and as such disqualified under Article 63 of the constitution. He requested that action be taken against Dr Asim in light of the apex court verdict. He also requested that Dr Asim be directed to submit an affidavit clarifying his nationality, and sought directions for the Senate secretary to confirm Dr Asim's dual nationality status. He prayed that Dr Asim be removed from his office of adviser and be barred from performing his duties until a verdict over the petition. End.
