LHC issues notice to ECP on 'vote rigging' plea

14 February, 2014

LAHORE: Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and a PML-N MPA, Waris Kahloon, on a petition seeking directions for recounting of ballot papers in PP-42 constituency of Khushab district.

The judge passed the orders on the petition moved by defeated candidate from the constituency, Khuda Bukhsh. The petitioner's counsel alleged that Waris Kahloon won May 11, 2013, elections through rigging. He alleged that the people of Kahloon's constituency had voted for him in great numbers but he was declared unsuccessful.

He said that the petitioner had moved to the election tribunal asking for recounting of votes but his application was dismissed without hearing him. He requested the court to issue directions to the ECP for recounting of ballots in the constituency.
