LHC cancels additional tax on incoming international calls

LAHORE: Lahore High Court Justice Ijazul Ahsan on Thursday cancelledthe Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) notification to imposeadditional tax on incoming international phone calls. The court also ordered the PTA chairman to submit to a petition againstthis tax until November 5. The judge issued the restraining order on petition of a company m/s Brain Telecommunication Company. The petitioner's counsel submitted that the PTA had unlawfully imposed the additional tax. He said that the PTA had also violated competitioncommission's rules. He said that Pakistanis living abroad werefacing difficulties due to this tax. He requested to declare it unlawful and restraint the PTA fromcharging the additional tax. The PTA counsel said that it was not an unlawful move and the additional tax was being collected in the interest of the country. End.
