Khyber Pakhtunkhwa restores old LG system

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet on Wednesday approved the restoration of the old local bodies system in the province, whereby the post of commissioner at division and deputy commissioners and executive magistrate at district levels would stand restored. The office of DCO, introduced by former president General Pervez Musharraf would cease to exist after the appointment of the Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and old Magistracy system in the province, KP Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain told reporters about decisions of the provincial cabinet. The office of Mayor for the municipal corporations in metropolitan city and district councils were also approved by the cabinet replacing the local government system introduced by former dictator General Musharraf. He said that the provincial cabinet held detailed discussion on the report drafted by the committee headed by Secretary Establishment, which was assigned the task to review the Local Govt. Act 2012 and suggest recommendations for the new administrative set-up at the divisional and district level. End.
