Khawaja Asif invites Imran to take control of Pesco

24 December, 2013

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif here on Monday said he welcomed Imran Khan's suggestion that if given control of Pesco in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he could end electricity pilferage.

The minister said, "We accept Khan Sahib's proposal and invite the KP government to come forward and take control of Pesco from the Ministry of Water and Power."It may be mentioned that PTI chief Imran Khan in his address the other day had thrown an open challenge to the federal government that if given control of Pesco, he could overcome power pilferage in KP.

The Water and Power Minister in a tit for tat response threw the ball back in PTI's court today asking it to put in place a scheme to end electricity theft. With Khan's anti-price hike rally falling far short of the desired target of mustering sufficient support from Lahorities to shake the PML-N in the heart of its stronghold and send reverberations of this shake-up to the centre, Khan might be prompted to take up the challenge from Khawaja Asif to make up for the failed Lahore show.

Such a challenge coming from none than the Minister for Power himself and with the Information Minister criticizing Imran Khan for playing up issues faced by the federal government to cover up his failures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, might be a sensitive situation for the PTI chief who has yet to show any thing tangible achieved in terms of Pakhtunkhwa's economic or social development.

End.
