Kashmiris holds protest outside Indian HC in London

28 January, 2013

LONDON: A large number of British Kashmiris and their sympathisers staged a demonstration outside the Indian High Commission in London to observe India's Republic Day as Black Day.

The demonstration was organised by the Kashmir Centre London and was led by its Executive Director, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl. Professor Shawl submitted a memorandum to the High Commission for the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh.

They present a memorandum which says, "we are handing over this memorandum at the Indian High Commission/Consulate today on Saturday 26th January, 2013, the Republic Day of India, being observed as Black Day by people of Jammu and Kashmir across the ceasefire line and all over the world where the Kashmir Diaspora lives".

Recent tensions along the ceasefire line have been a matter of concern for all the people of Jammu and Kashmir. These skirmishes are indicative of the fact that any such situation can become catastrophic. Strengthening the peace and addressing the Kashmir dispute as per the aspirations of the people is the need of the hour.

The report emanating from India that the people in Kashmir should make preparation against any nuclear confrontation is an attempt to create fear psychosis and it does not augur well.

The Jammu and Kashmir where Indian forces have been deployed continues to remain devoid of human rights and sufferings multiply with the passage of every day.

Your promise of zero tolerance has not been realised till date. We have recently witnessed killings of the innocent people in different areas of the Jammu and Kashmir.

Violence against women and children is also rampant.

Draconian laws remain in operation, arrest of the political leaders and denial of their free movement continue.

Right of the self-determination, which is a non-negotiable right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, is not redeemed.
