Karzai reshuffles police top brass

KABUL: President Hamid Karzai, approving a proposal from the Ministry of Interior (MoI), has approved a major reshuffle of senior security officials, his office said on Monday.

The administrative affairs department said the shake-up was aimed at bringing reforms to the ministry and enhancing security in the country. A statement from the department said Karzai had approved the MoI proposal ordering 14 senior officers transferred and posted through a decree.

Brig. Gen. Rahmatullah Safi has been appointed as Herat police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Razzaq Achakzai as Kandahar police chief and Maj. Gen. Mohammad Sharif as Nangarhar police chief.

Also, Brig. Gen. Abdul Habib Syedkheli has been named as Kunar police chief, Brig. Gen. Khwaja Faqir Ahmad Kapisa police chief and Brig. Gen. Abdul Karim Omaryar Nuristan police head.
