Karachi violence devours 11 more

KARACHI: The ongoing violence in the city claimed at least eleven lives on Wednesday, including a serving officer of the Pakistan Navy.
The navy Captain and his wife were attacked by armed gunmen near Stadium Road. The officer died while his wife was admitted to hospital for treatment. Police have yet to ascertain the motive behind the incident.
A Rangers official and three gangsters were killed during an encounter in Lyari. The encounter took place when Rangers officials, acting on a tip-off about the presence of Lyari's notorious gangster Jabbar Jhengu, raided his hideout in Old Union Community Road in Lyari's Shah Baig Lane.
When the Rangers troops reached the hideout, gunmen opened fire on them, killing soldier Sohail Akhtar on the spot.
Rangers officials fired back, killing three gangsters, while the remaining managed to escape. Following the encounter, residents of the area staged a protest against Rangers, suspending routine and commercial activities in the area. Separately, a worker of the MQM was shot dead in an armed attacked in Orangi Town.
Police said Shaikh Babar, aka Shakeel Chohta, was shot dead by armed men outside his house. The body was handed over to the victim's heirs after autopsy. Police suspect it to be a politically motivated murder. A policeman and his friend were found dead from separate areas of the city. Police said that deceased were identified as Malik Waqas Ahmed, who was dismissed from police, and his friend Muhammad Asif, who was a supporter of the MQM. Police said that the two were kidnapped by armed men on Tuesday from Haji Camp area. They had been shot multiple times.
A police constable was shot dead in Orangi Town. Police said that deceased Haji Javed was on his way to the police station when armed motorcyclists intercepted him and shot him multiple times before fleeing. A father and son were also gunned down in Orangi Town. A spiritual healer was shot dead in Haider Colony. The deceased was identified as Rehan Yousuf and was shot while heading home. A young man belonging to the Kutchi community was shot dead in Nayabad. Police said that deceased Muhammad Ali, 25, was standing near his home when armed motorcyclists came and shot him dead.
Also, a man was shot dead in Shah Faisal Colony. Police said that unidentified men arrived at the victim's home and called him outside. When he came out they fired at him. An alleged drug peddler was killed during an exchange of firing between two groups of drug peddlers in Chenasor Goth, Mehmoodabad.
A sub-inspector (SI) of police was shot dead in Orangi Town within the remits of Mominabad Police Station.
