Karachi operation to go on against all odds: PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday directed the authorities that the Karachi operation should continue at all costs till the restoration of peace in the city.

While talking to the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan at the PM House, Nawaz Sharif observed that the targeted operation in Karachi was fruitful in restoring peace in Karachi. He expressed satisfaction over the ongoing operation against the criminal elements in him about the Karachi operation. He also apprised him about progress in the dialogue process with Tehrik-e-Talaban Pakistan (TTP).

The government will provide resources needed for continuation of the operation and next phase would be conducted in accordance to the plan. It is understood that the two have also discussed the situation arising due to difference of opinion between the civil administration and authorities carrying out the operation. The situation in the wake of assassination of SP Chaudhary Aslam also reportedly figured in the meeting. Prime Minister Nawaz eulogized the efforts of the Interior Ministry for overcoming the law and order situation in various parts of the country.

Well placed sources told that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reminded the minister need for retaining all parties concerned for endured peace and tranquility in Karachi and other urban areas of Sindh. It has been officially stated that while talking to Chaudhary Nisar, Nawaz appreciated the operation, being carried out against criminals in Karachi.

Sana adds: Nawaz said militants will not be allowed to roam freely in cities and that action will be taken against miscreants.Chaudhry Nisar informed the prime minister that most of the Taliban groups agreed on holding dialogue with the government.

He said all possible steps are being taken for talking with Taliban, adding that it is hoped that the dialogue process would start soon. According to a private TV channel, the matter of allotment of portfolios to newly inducted ministers also came under discussion. The federal cabinet had earlier empowered Rangers to lead the targeted operation in Karachi with the support of police against criminals.
