Kabul terms it a crushing blow to anti-govt insurgents

KABUL: The Afghan government said on Friday it would fully support a US decision to blacklist the Haqqani network as a terrorist group, saying it would deal a crushing blow to insurgents seeking to bring down its administration. The Pakistan-based network has been blamed for some of the worst attacks in the last 10 years' of war in Afghanistan, such as a June assault on a lakeside hotel that killed 18 people and 2011 siege on the US embassy in Kabul. Afghan officials have repeatedly joined their American counterparts in urging Pakistan to do more to eliminate the faction. "It will be a big move in destroying terrorists and their supporters, because the Haqqani network is the most dangerous terrorist group," Interior Ministry spokesman Siddiq Sadiqui said. End.
