KMC worker among seven killed in mishaps

KARACHI: Seven people including the driver of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) were killed in different incidents of violence and mishaps on Tuesday, police said.

As per details, a KMC driver was killed while other injured in armed attack at Qalandria Chowk, North Nazimabad in jurisdiction of Shahrah e Noor Jahan Police Station. SHO Nisar Lodhi said that two unidentified armed riders opened indiscriminate fire at Atta, 35, son of Rehman and Shabbir 31, resultantly both received multiple bullet injuries. They were rushed to Abbassi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for treatment where during treatment Atta succumbed to his injuries while the condition of Shabbir was termed stable. He informed that both had come to Sakhi Hasan graveyard to attend the funeral of somebody, however, they were targeted by armed miscreants upon returning. The victim was a father of two children and worked in KMC as a driver

In another incident, a man was killed near slum area, Rasheedabad situated in North Nazimabad within the limits of Sir Syed police station According to police, the victim, Qadeem 25, son of Anwar was standing near a tea shop when armed riders accosted him and opened fire, thus killing him instantly. The body was brought to the ASH for an autopsy. The victim was hailed from Pasheen, Balochistan. The police officer added that personal enmity was the reason behind killing. He said further investigation was under way.

Meanwhile, a body of a man was found near Al Mustafa hotel situated at Lee market within the precincts of Khararder police station. Police official said that after getting the information about the body lying near hotel, they rushed at the spot and shifted it to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for medico legal formalities and identification. He said that the victim was later identified as 30-year-old Syed Husnain Raza, son of, Shaukat Raza. The victim was the resident of Baghdadi area of Lyari. He informed that unidentified culprits kidnapped him and after brutal torture dumped his body in the locality.

Separately, a middle-aged man died due to suffocation while cleaning water tank inside his house situated in Buffer Zone within limits of Taimuria Police Station. According to police, the victim, Saeed 47, son of Nazir was busy in cleaning his water tank in the house when suddenly he fell down unconsciously. When taken to the ASH for treatment, doctors pronounced him dead and explained the reason of death as intense suffocation. The victim was the employee of a private company and a father of four children.

In another incident, an elderly woman died due to burnt injuries in an incident in Bihar colony area, Lyari within the jurisdiction of Chakiwara police station.

An official said that the victim Zainab, 53, wife of Sattar, was busy in making food around noon when she was caught by fire and received critical burn injuries and was rushed to the CHK where during treatment she succumbed to her injuries. The MLO said her body received 70 percent burn injuries due to fire.

Meanwhile, a three-day-old drowned body of a minor girl was found from Raxer Line Bridge in Pak Colony area in the precinct of Pak Colony police station. The identity of the child could not be ascertained as yet.

An elderly man accused of dealing in fake coins died in police custody in Shah Latif police station. The police official said that the victim Nazeer Ahmed, 61, son of Shamoon was arrested on Monday night for his involvement in fake coin dealings case. During the interrogation, he fell unconscious and was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medcial Centre for treatment, where doctors pronounced him dead. The officer said doctors said death was resulted due to cardiac failure.
