Judge orders arrest warrant for KP minister Aqil Shah

18 October, 2012

PESHAWAR: District and Sessions Judge Shaibar Khan on Wednesday ordered issuance of an arrest warrant against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Sports Aqil Shah after he failed to appear in his fake degree case pending in court.

The regional election commission filed a complaint against the ANP minister after it was discovered he did not possess a genuine graduation degree. The court ordered issuance of the warrant after the Shah failed to appear before the judge on October 11.

Shah was elected from PK-4 Peshawar constituency during the 2008 general election on an Awami National Party ticket. He could face up to three years of imprisonment, if convicted, according to lawyers.

End.
