MACHH: A joint investigation team (JIT) headed by Police DIG Ameer Shaikh interrogated death row prisoner Saulat Mirza at Machh Jail in Balochistan on Wednesday.

The seven-member investigation team came to Machh to question MQM worker in view of his video statement against Altaf Hussain, which surfaced a few hours before his scheduled hanging. Mirza was convicted by a court in murder of managing director of KESC Shahid Hamid, his driver and body guard. The JIT comprises of officials from Sindh Police, Sindh Rangers, Intelligence Bureau (IB), FIA, MI, ISI and a member of the CID Police.

The provincial home department has directed the Machh Jail officials to extend full cooperation to the investigation team. Stringent security measures were taken at Machh jail when the investigation team’s convoy of six vehicles arrived. Security was stepped up in and around the prison with deployment of police, Balochistan Constabulary and Rapid Response Force at the jail.
