Installing CCTV cameras... By Mubashir

06 March, 2013

The twin blasts that targeted a residential building in Abbas Town killed more than 46 people and wounded around 140. Many children were also killed in the tragic incident.

According to media reports, police and law enforcement agencies reached the incident after one hour and this delay was because hundreds of police officers were present at the engagement ceremony of PPP leader Sharmila Farooqi at Mohatta Palace. A few hours after the attack, many people started criticising Sharmila Farooqi and the Karachi police on social networking websites. It is time that CCTV cameras in Karachi were installed in massive numbers. I have read many times that around 3,000 to 4,000 CCTV cameras are already installed in different zones in Karachi from the toll plaza at the entrance to Karachi to all the main roads and streets. All our roads should be covered by this CCTV system, which should be linked to a command and control system.

Whenever any incident occurs (mobile snatching, robbery, murder or bomb blast) the police can see from where the accused arrived on the scene of the crime and where he fled. It is hoped that the next government after elections will make sure to do this. It will require a lot of money but will ensure law and order in the metropolitan city.
