GAYARI: Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Kayani said on Thursday India had toughened its stance on the Siachen dispute.

Speaking to reporters during his third visit to the Gayari Sector since an avalanche hit an army camp there, he said India had been demanding approval of Line of Control but now it had started asking for re-determination of positions.

Earlier, the army chief was briefed about the progress of rescue work at the site of disaster.

According to a statement issued by the ISPR, the satellite data link had also become operational on Thursday, which would allow the real time video monitoring of relief work from the GHQ.

Kayani remained with the troops for some time and lauded their motivation in face of tough conditions and extreme weather.

End.
