If the reports are true... By Faiza

I find it morally repugnant that there may be something more to the Joseph Colony incident than meets the eye — something far more sinister than the initial reports indicated. It is being reported that the misuse of the blasphemy law may not have been the reason behind the angry mob torching hundreds of Christian homes but that traders were responsible for this act of arson as they wanted the land upon which these homes were built. People are saying that this was a 'classic' case of land grabbing and what more befitting way than to rile up an angry crowd to do the dirty deed under the guise of religion? This is despicable. The entire incident is repulsive but this added dimension has shown us as being so inhumane and so greedy that we resort to such brutalities. Pakistanis seem to have no cause and no reason to be sensitive to the plight and circumstances of others. If the reports are true, I hope the perpetrators are served their just desserts. FAIZA KHAN
